Garth Nix? I’m confused!?

In Garth Nix’s novel, Sabriel, there’s a dog called Kibeth. What does he do in the story? I’m in the second book right now and I was looking at pictures of Sabriel and something came up about Kibeth but I couldn’t remember when he was in the novel. Thank you!
To clear things up a bit, (sorry) I was wondering when the dog comes up in Sabriel. I hope that helps.

I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but the Dog is the physical form of one of the Abhorsen’s bells, Kibeth. Kibeth is the bell that controls movement and is always described as sounding cheery and lighthearted, much like the enthusiastic Dog. The Dog is also friends with Lirael. Lirael found the statue of the dog in the library of the Clayr and the statue ended up turning into the Dog.
